Smith Mountain Lake State Park, 1235 Road 888 in Huddleston
Offering over a thousand acres of views that will take your breath away, a visit to Smith Mountain Lake Park should be one of the first things you do. Offering quiet paths that lead through the tall trees, the occasional bench perched near the rocky shoreline, and a feeling that this is the place you were meant to live, the stunning beauty will almost have you speaking in whispers! Smith Mountain Lake State Park can be found by taking Smith Mountain Lake Pkwy to Rd 888.
Smith Mountain Lake Dam & Visitor’s Center, 2074 Ford Road in Sandy Level
The best views are always the ones you can see from above, and the Smith Mountain Lake Dam is one of our favorite scenic spots. Learn the history of the dam as you examine the exhibits in the Visitor’s Center and then venture outside to explore some of the most beautiful views in the entire state. The dam, completed in 1963, is built of concrete and dreams, and from the top you can see for miles. Take VA-40E to Grassland Drive, Yorkshire Drive and Ford Road and be sure to enjoy the scenery along the way!
The Center of Smith Mountain Lake
Rent a boat from one of the marinas in the area and spend a day exploring the views from the scenic center of Smith Mountain Lake. As you watch the shoreline, during certain seasons, the chance of seeing a hesitant doe stepping out with her fawn to take a taste of the lake is high, especially when you go out around sunrise or sunset. There are many ways to get to the center of the lake, and if you happen to have rented a home on the water, you know the quickest way: just hop in one of the kayaks that come with our lakefront rentals!
