When vacationing during the holidays, sometimes dining can be the most frustrating activity, especially when you just don’t feel like preparing meals. Trying to find a restaurant that’s open on New Year’s Eve can be next to impossible, and hunger pangs may lead to eating the jerky and trail mix you packed for travel, but this won’t be an issue during your Virginia getaway! We’ve done the legwork by calling ahead to some of our favorite places, and we have created this list of restaurants that are open on the last night of the decade, so all you have to do is show up at the door! (Some do require reservations to be made, and that information is included in the list.) After a long day of exploring the beauty of Smith Mountain Lake’s winter wonderland, be it hiking in the brisk air or enjoying a taste of the Bedford Wine Trail, these Smith Mountain Lake restaurants offer the perfect way to say farewell to the old year and welcome the new year.

Blind Bill’s combines good service with a cozy ambiance and delicious food. It’s simple, no fuss food served with a smile. All in all, it’s everything that represents Smith Mountain Lake. They fry pretty much everything here, from crispy tater tots to french fries to onion rings. These all come with the option to smother them with chili and cheese. There are plenty of great sandwich options to enjoy at Blind Bill’s. Try the “Slap Ya’ Sideways Sliders,” which are small BBQ sliders with a jerk sauce topped with coleslaw. If you’re interested in trying their signature dish, get the Philly Cheesesteak. It’s prepared traditionally, with a cheesy sauce with mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. If you’d rather have a burger, there are a ton of options. We love the Red, White, and Blue burger, which features sauteed mushrooms and melted bleu cheese crumbles.

Enjoy a Specials

If you visit Blind Bill’s on a Sunday, make sure you indulge in one of the two specials available: Sunday Brunch Buffet or the Sunday Dinner. Both are classic homestyle meals that are sure to remind you of eating at Grandma’s. If you can only choose one, we suggest the Sunday Dinner. It’s a prime rib dinner, served with au jus, whipped horseradish, a baked potato, and a vegetable. Every Monday brings “Funday Monday,” which consists of an all-you-can-eat taco bar.
