Answer: Absolutely! The three counties around the region work together to keep the water and its sources clean. The natural beauty of the mountain and woods are maintained. The water is clean and very clear.

Are there snakes in Smith Mountain Lake?

Answer: Yes. There are 30 different types of snakes in the area. Only three are venomous: eastern copperhead, timber rattlesnake, and northern cottonmouth. However, you are more likely to only encounter the cottonmouth. Stay alert near the water and always keep your distance if you see any snake.
